The Hon Michael Sukkar MP to give opening address at AUTOCARE 2018

The Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) is pleased to announce the Hon Michael Sukkar MP, Federal Member for Deakin and Assistant Minister to the Treasurer, will give the opening address to kick off Autocare 2018 at the International Convention Centre Sydney on the morning of Friday 4 May.

On January 24th 2017 Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull appointed Michael Sukkar to the Ministry as Assistant Minister to the Treasurer.  In this role Michael has responsibility for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and is therefore the Minister responsible for responding to the key recommendations arising from the ACCC’s market study into new car retailing which was presented to Government late last year.

The AAAA has had an ongoing relationship with Minister Sukkar and we were delighted when he became the Minister responsible for the ACCC Investigation into the New Car Industry. It has been our pleasure to speak with him about the report findings, particularly the ACCC recommendation for a mandatory scheme for the sharing of automotive repair and service information. The government is currently considering the ACCC recommendations.

Michael has lived, worked and been a part of the Deakin electorate all of his life and is a very popular and hardworking local Member.  Around 3 years ago Michael was one of the first MP’s to accept an invitation to visit an independent workshop in his electorate to discuss access to repair and service information  and since then we have met with him on numerous occasions both in Canberra and at repair businesses in his electorate.  As such Michael has developed a strong understanding of the issues we face as an industry.

We are extremely fortunate that Michael Sukkar has agreed to speak at Autocare 2018 and we look forward to the content of his opening address.

There will be thousands of automotive professionals attending the combined two day formal Convention Program, free trade display and onsite activities, making Autocare 2018 an education, networking and business development event not to be missed.
